Credit Repair for the Serious Consumer

Learn to Write a Letter on Credit Repair - Sample Letters Templates Can Help

After you request your free credit report, you may find that there are errors on it. Most credit reports contain at least one error, many have more than one. If you find an error on your credit report, writing a letter to the reporting agency may help you with your attempt at credit repair. A sample letter is included at the end of this article.

In this letter, be sure to tell the creditor that you are disputing an entry on your report. Include copies of documents that support your claim. For example, if an entry for another person with a similar name has appeared on your report, clarify the discrepancy and send a copy of your drivers' license or other identification. If you're unsure how to write a letter to start the process of credit repair, a sample letter can help you to find the right words. Writing to the reporting agency is an excellent way to begin the dispute process, and is an important part of repairing your credit score.

After filing a dispute with the creditor or information provider, they are required to investigate the matter. After receiving your credit repair sample letter, they report the information to another agency, they are required to send your letter along with it.  If they later find that the information they originally reported is incorrect, they are required not to report it again.

Disputing inaccurate information on your credit report is the first step towards rebuilding your credit. Raising your credit score is a gradual process, and disputing any inaccurate information is an important step along the way.  This credit repair sample letter will help you to write a letter that gets results. Once you've disputed an entry on your credit report in writing, the agency has to verify that the negative entry is, indeed, valid. If it is not, they have to amend your credit report accordingly. If the information is inaccurate, the provider may not report it again.
